St. James’ has a long history of supporting the work of mission both in our backyard and beyond. Through long-standing relationships cultivated in Haiti and Malawi, among others, we have helped support programs for children, increased capacity for healthcare, and walked with our siblings in Christ.
Diocese of Southern Malawi
St. James’ continues to partner with its friends in Southern Malawi. We support the Mindanti Health Clinic, which opened in 2023 to provide medical and maternity services in an underserved area of rural Malawi. Contact the Rev. Marisa Sifontes to get involved or to learn more.
The New York Haiti Project
This year, we begin a new partnership as St. James’ joins other congregations in the Diocese of New York to support education and sustainability at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and School in Martel, Haiti. Contact the Rev. Marisa Sifontes to get involved or to learn more.
For Youth
During specific seasons, we accept donations of food, toiletries, and clothing for Midnight Run, an organization that brings resources to those in need. Our high schoolers then participate in a “Midnight Run” to deliver these essentials to underserved communities in NYC.
In the fall and spring, all students are invited to join a day of Creation Care at St. Francis Community Garden in North Bellmore, NY.
Our high schoolers will embark on a week-long trip with the Appalachia Service Project from June 28 to July 4, 2026.
For Young Adults
St. Jamesians Serving Lunch in the Park
The St. Jamesians (20s and 30s) have partnered with Graffiti Church on the LES to help with their Free Lunch in the Park Program at Tompkins Square Park. They help to make sandwiches and pre-package lunches once monthly to give out to those in need. Contact Calvin Bushman to get involved.
Additional Opportunities
Project Cicero
Project Cicero provides children’s and young adults’ books to teachers at NYC public schools. St. James’ participates by collecting new and gently-used books throughout the year. Donated books can be dropped off at any time in the Parish House reception area. More information about Project Cicero is available at www.projectcicero.org.
