St. James’ Giving Day

Tuesday, June 10, 2025

Give to St. James’ today

We invite you to be a part of St. James’ Giving Day on Tuesday, June 10. We aim to raise $200,000 in one day with the goal to reduce our reliance on the endowment. Reducing St. James’ endowment drawdown allows us to build a better foundation for the future – like watering a sapling to make sure its roots take hold, grow deep into the soil, and support the tree as it flourishes for years to come.

Giving Day this year comes just days after Pentecost. Pentecost is the beginning of the church’s public mission, when Jesus’ followers were filled with the Holy Spirit and inspired to boldly share God’s message. We hope that this day can be a chance to reflect on and celebrate all that the Church and Christ’s disciples have done – and all the work we continue to be called to do as we share the good news with our community, our city, and the world.

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. ET on June 10, you can participate in Giving Day by:

  • Giving online
  • Dropping a check off at St. James’ reception desk
  • Mailing a check on or before Giving Day

Giving Day FAQs

Why are we having Giving Day in June instead of December as we did in 2024?

St. James’ held our first-ever Giving Day in December 2024. We saw a lot of enthusiasm, but also know that the Christmas season is busy and that it occurred soon after Commitment Sunday in the fall. In 2025, we are holding Giving Day in June to highlight that these gifts to reduce the endowment drawdown are distinct from members’ annual financial commitments to the church. We intend for Giving Day to be held annually in late spring.

What is the endowment?

The endowment was established over a century ago to support the long-term health of our church and its missions. An endowment is a type of investment mechanism that many nonprofit organizations use to maximize their assets for growth.

How much do we want to reduce St. James’ endowment draw-down, and why?

Our three-year plan is to only draw down a low-single digit percentage from the endowment, and we are close to that percentage. Every $200,000 (our goal amount to raise on Giving Day) reduces the draw by 1%. Reducing the drawdown preserves more of St. James’ investment funds, ensuring we can support programs sustainably and weather future financial challenges.

How is Giving Day different from the annual stewardship commitment I made for 2025?

Annual commitments (made in the fall) directly fund church programs, staff, and facilities for the current year. Giving Day funds will improve our long-term financial stability.

How should I make out a check for Giving Day?

Checks should be made out to St. James’ Church with “Giving Day 2025” in the memo. You can drop off checks at St. James’ reception with attention to Kristin Hardwick, Stewardship Coordinator. You can also mail them to the church before, on, or after Giving Day through June 30.

I won’t be here on Giving Day and would like to give my check in person. When can I do that?

You are welcome to bring your check to the Parish House to the attention of Kristin Hardwick, Stewardship Coordinator, before Giving Day or after. Please include “Giving Day 2025” in the memo field. You may bring your check up to a week before Giving Day, June 10, and through the month until June 30.

Do I have to be a member of St. James’ to give to Giving Day?

No! We welcome all neighbors and friends, and we appreciate you being a part of our community in some way.
