St. James’ Giving Day

Offer a one-time gift to St. James’ today

Committing to the community, as a community

St. James’ Giving Day is a first for our community! In one day, starting at 7:00 a.m. on December 5th, we hope to close the gap in achieving our stewardship goal of $3,000,000 for 2024 (thanks to your generosity, we are close!). With a one-time gift on December 5th, from parishioners and friends of the parish, we can reach our goal. A financial gift made on Giving Day is in addition to your annual commitment to St. James’.

Please mark your calendars for our Giving Day. In addition to offering our treasures that day, you will find opportunities for fellowship and communion as we come together to also give our time and our talent as a community.

Giving of your treasure

God calls us to be stewards of his gifts to live out the Gospel. As other churches do, we also supplement our church income with an annual draw on the endowment. We have set budgets to reduce our annual draw from historical double digits to 5% over the next three years. Reaching our 2024 stewardship goal will help us achieve a larger draw reduction this year, and we are within reach.

On December 5th, we will announce the amount we hope to raise on that day to close the gap to our goal. Emails will be sent throughout the day with updates and will include a link to offer your gift online.

Giving of your time

We give of our time to care for our community. As people who experience the love of God during life’s peaks and valleys, we want to set time aside in the service of others when they need a helping hand.

On the evening of December 5th, Giving Day, we invite all of the St. James’ community to come together as we prepare 500 meals and make gifts for those in need.

Children and families are invited to make desserts for our Friday Night Meal Program, while others will be preparing freezer meals, making winter backpacks for the guests of our meal programs and Samaritan’s Closet, and writing notes for our Share the Warmth program.

We have activities for all on our first Giving Day. For a detailed schedule and location, please see below. We welcome all as well as friends of the parish!

4:45-5:30 p.m. | Children and families make Oreo Freezer Pies (150) in Coburn Hall

6:00 p.m. | Collective mission activity
    • making winter backpack kits (120), Coburn Hall
    • writing notes for Share the Warmth (120), Coburn Hall
    • preparing freezer meals (100), Kitchen

Giving of your talent

We give of our talent to uplift the community.  God has given each of us unique gifts and abilities, and those talents can be used to encourage and strengthen those around us. Let’s use the gift of music to prepare the hearts and minds of those around us as this Christmas season draws near.

At 6:30 p.m. on of Giving Day, join Kenneth Miller, our Director of Music, for a Christmas Carol workshop! We will be practicing a few of our favorite Christmas Carols that we will share with our Upper East Side neighbors from the front of the Church on the evening of  Tuesday, December 17th.
