    { We're Glad You've Visited }

    We welcome you and invite you to enter into a deeper exploration of a community that shares the love of Jesus Christ with each other, our city, and the world. It takes more than a few words to describe a parish, but there are two things we can tell you right away: we are committed to Jesus Christ and from that commitment flows our care for one another and our ministries. In every ministry and program, we at St. James' Church on Madison Avenue at 71st Street invite you to enter more deeply into the life we share in Christ. We hope you will join us.

    The Rev. Brenda G. Husson, Rector

    { First Time Families }

    We've found that St. James' mix of rich Anglican tradition and innovative, fun family worship and programming is just the right recipe for helping kids know God's love.

    When you come to church at St. James', you can expect to find...

    SPACE TO PRAY. Our services include hymns, prayers, and time for silence, as well as Communion and sermons that connect our Scriptures to our lives.

    SPACE TO BE YOURSELF. Worshipers at St. James' come from many different places, backgrounds, and perspectives.

    SPACE TO MAKE CONNECTIONS. Whether it's your first time or your thousandth, there's always an opportunity to get better connected with God and one another. Join us at coffee hour or stop by the Welcome station on your way out. We look forward to meeting you.

Celebrate Advent

Anticipation. Preparation. Expectation.

Celebrate this holy season of Advent with friends old and new and prepare for the joys of Christmas! Contact Grace Beacham for more information about any of these activities.

Donations accepted through Thursday, Dec. 13
Share the Joy of the season with children of incarcerated parents by contributing to our Share the Joy gift drive. In partnership with the Osborn Association, St. James' is proud to collect gift cards, toys, games, electronic goods, and other gifts for children who will not be able to spend the season with their parents. Help these children spend a happy Christmas and donate generously to Share the Joy. Contact Susana Ferrer to learn more.

Thursday, Nov. 29 | 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Our first festive event of the Advent/Christmas season is a creative evening for ALL ages in Coburn Hall. We supply the makings for your wreath, including beautifully fresh greens, a straw frame, red berries, and an Advent candle set. Small children need supervision at this event. Seasonal music sets the mood. $25 reserves your wreath. Supper is served at an additional $5 cost.

Wednesday, Dec. 12 | 7:00 p.m., with simple supper at 6:15 p.m.

Spend an evening at St. James' in reflection and prayer, with meditations led by the Rev. Janet Vincent. The evening will begin with supper at 6:15 p.m, and end with a candlelit service of Compline at 8:15 p.m.

CHRISTMAS BOUTIQUE: Shop to help those in need

Sunday, Dec. 2 | 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
A longtime tradition, the Christmas Boutique is a fun day of holiday shopping for parishioners and their guests. Drop by and visit one of our many unique vendors. Shop children's clothing, homemade candy, jewelry, holiday gifts, cashmere wraps, and much more. We also have the ever-popular Vintage Christmas area. Bring your Christmas list and tell your friends.

Through the work of the St. James' Grants Committee, 20% of all Christmas Boutique vendor sales are passed onto community-based organizations and charities throughout the five boroughs.  You'll feel twice as good knowing that you have crossed gifts off your list while helping those less fortunate.

CHRISTMAS CAROLING, on church steps,

followed by festive reception (for all ages)

Tuesday, Dec. 18

  • All-Parish Caroling (5:30 - 6:00 p.m.):
    Join St. James' music director Davis Wortman for some old-fashioned caroling on Madison Avenue. Parishioners and friends, young and old, assemble on the front steps of St. James' to sing traditional songs that celebrate the season for passers-by. Don't know the words? No problem! Song sheets will be provided.

  • Festive Reception (6:00 - 7:00 p.m.):
    Warm up after caroling with fellowship over hot chocolate, hot apple cider, wine, snacks, and Christmas treats.

Please contact Grace Beacham (212-774-4231) with any questions about the events or to volunteer.
