    { We're Glad You've Visited }

    We welcome you and invite you to enter into a deeper exploration of a community that shares the love of Jesus Christ with each other, our city, and the world. It takes more than a few words to describe a parish, but there are two things we can tell you right away: we are committed to Jesus Christ and from that commitment flows our care for one another and our ministries. In every ministry and program, we at St. James' Church on Madison Avenue at 71st Street invite you to enter more deeply into the life we share in Christ. We hope you will join us.

    The Rev. Brenda G. Husson, Rector

    { First Time Families }

    We've found that St. James' mix of rich Anglican tradition and innovative, fun family worship and programming is just the right recipe for helping kids know God's love.

Christmas Pageant

St. James’ Christmas Pageant

The Christmas story comes to life for our children
Sunday, December 16, 2018, at 4:00 p.m.

This year’s Christmas Pageant, under the direction of Jeremy Diakonov-Curtis, will be an “En promenade” - style production where the audience will experience the journey of Joseph and Mary and the birth of the baby Jesus in new and surprising ways!  We will give the audience the chance to meet the shepherds, the animals, the kings, and all of the participants in the pageant in places they never expected.  All children ages 4 and older are invited to participate.  You know your child best – how will s/he get the most out of this event?  -- through audience, actor and/or musical participation?

The Children’s Choirs will provide musical leadership for the Pageant.  Members of the Choirs are also invited to request one of the parts listed for your age group.

Here are the parts to choose from:

  • Primary Class: angels and animals (a variety of “beasts” available!)
  • Grades 1-2: angels, animals, pages, Mary’s companions
  • Grades 3-4: angels, shepherds, townsfolk
  • Grades 5-12: Mary, Joseph, Gabriel, Joseph’s angel, narrators, Caesar, innkeepers, senior shepherds, angels & animals, group leaders and ushers, kings (by vocal audition).

 GROUP LEADERS (adults) are vital to the success of our performance.
