Baptism at St. James'

Baptism is the outward sign of the inward grace, through which we become members of the church, the “Body of Christ.”

At baptism, we make promises about how we will live our lives as followers of Jesus Christ. (In the case of children, parents and godparents make promises on behalf of the child.)  God promises us forgiveness of our sins and the power of the Holy Spirit through prayers and pouring of water by a priest.

You can read the service of baptism on page 299 of the Book of Common Prayer. Speak to any of our clergy to learn more.
