St. James' Church

Especially for Newcomers

Looking for a church? Newcomers often ask "How do I start?" Our answer is "Through regular worship and getting involved in one or more of the ministries offered at St. James'."

Or just come and join us at one of the many activities listed on the online calendar. We are eager to get to know you!

We are a neighborhood parish church with a strong sense of mission located on Madison Avenue at 71st Street in New York City. All are welcome to our church.

The church is open daily for prayer and meditation. You can find our weekly service schedule and a description of each service here. Greeters are available at the entrances at Sunday services to help orient you and answer your questions.

The links at the top of the page will help you explore St. James' and its many ministries and programs. Keep in mind especially the following:

Use the online calendar to see a complete daily schedule of events at St. James'. Please also take a moment to download a Welcome Card or fill one out at the welcome table at church, so that we know your interests in St. James' and can refer you to the most appropriate ministries within our community. And consider signing up for "The Way at St. James'," a program to help newcomers and others reflect on how we understand and try to live the Christian life here at St. James' and how they want to be involved.

If you have any questions about your new journey at St. James', please contact the Rev. Craig Townsend, Vicar. God bless you, and we hope to meet you at St. James' very soon!
