Career Assistance Ministry

The Career Assistance Ministry sponsors a series of meetings for parishioners who are in the job market so that they can exchange information, share experiences, and provide support for each other. The group meets every other week after the 11:15 a.m. service. Meetings are a combination of presentation and group discussion, and each meeting focuses on a particular job search topic like networking, determining search objectives, preparing resumes, and using the Internet. Check the weekly announcements for the latest details or contact the Career Assistance Ministry if you'd like more information."

Career Assistance Ministers are a group of concerned parishioners who want to help out in these tough times. They bring their own work and job search experiences, experiences in helping others, and a variety of contacts to their role as job coaches. They also recognize the value of having different kinds of support during the job search process.

CAMs are available to provide individual assistance to parishioners who need help with their careers, including::

  • helping you determine your goals and create a plan for your job search
  • assisting with specific activities such as developing resumes and correspondence or preparing for interviews
  • monitoring progress and helping you react to what you’re learning in your search
  • providing someone else to talk with during a difficult process

You Can Help Parishioners Find Jobs
Despite a slight improvement in the economy, the St. James’ community continues to be hard hit, and many of our parishioners remain out of work. These days most jobs are found through personal contacts, and you may be able to provide valuable assistance by sharing your knowledge about job openings or by providing contacts and industry information. Our job seekers come from many industries and have a wide range of experiences. You can see a partial list of their job needs here.

If you are interested in CAM, either because you’re looking for a job or would like to help someone who is, contact a Career Minister at St. James'.
