Grants Committee: This committee awards approximately forty small grants each year to support a wide range of services in New York City. Priority is given to community-based agencies with budgets under $500,000. Recent grants support after-school and summer youth programs, emergency feeding programs, activities for seniors, supportive services for people in transition from prison or homelessness. Grant decisions are made by a committee of parishioners who are appointed by the Rector. The committee is a beneficiary of the St. James' Community Festival. New Ventures Committee: This committee makes large, multiple-year grants to organizations which address the root causes of human need. Grants are focused on one or two major efforts for a three-year period with a goal of moving urgent social problems toward solutions. Seventy-five percent of the grants are made to agencies in New York City. A recent focus was childcare in the South Bronx. During a year of transition, grants are being made to after-school programs in East Harlem and adult literacy programs for recent immigrants. Twenty-five percent of the grants are made overseas to churches within the Anglican Communion. The current international focus is on primary, secondary and vocational schools in southern Africa. Grant decisions are made by a small committee of parishioners appointed by the Rector. For more information, contact Pam Stebbins.
