For Whom the Bells Toll

For Whom the Bells Toll is a national initiative by religious organizations, including the Episcopal cathedral of the diocese of New York and other Episcopal churches in the diocese of New York and throughout the United States, which opposes capital punishment and all acts of violence, and which asks member churches to toll their church bells whenever there is an execution in the United States of a person on death row and to gather at such times to pray for the executed and his or her family, his or her victim(s) and their families, all who witness said execution, such as the executioner, guards and medical personnel, all victims of violence and all persons on death row.

St. James’ will toll its bells whenever a person is executed in the United States and holds a monthly prayer service for all persons affected by violence. Read the resolution.
