St. James' Church

The St. Jamesians

The St. Jamesians are parishioners in their 20s and 30s who meet regularly for spiritual
activities, service projects and social events. Newcomers and friends are always welcome at St. Jamesians events. The purpose of our group is to connect young adults to one another
and to the parish as a whole. We are here to help you find ways of being a part of the
community that you find meaningful, and that bring you joy.

Summer 2009 for 20s and 30s

Ecumencial Summer Series
Have you ever wondered what Sunday mornings are like at a Quaker Meeting House? What about a Times Square mega-church? The St. Jamesians, parishioners in their 20s and 30s, will worship God in a variety of ways this summer in churches and traditions that are markedly different from our own. We will attend worship and, afterwards, have a conversation with members of the host church about their service.

Summer Sunday Brunches
June 21, July 19, August 16

Summer’s here! The St. Jamesians’ monthly brunch moves to Central Park for potluck picnics and lawn games, once a month, immediately following the 10:30 a.m. service. Newcomers welcome as always.

Summer Dinner Programs
Friday, June 26; Tuesday, August 11

Parishioners in their 20s & 30s will be in charge of preparing, serving and cleaning up a seated, three-course dinner for eighty homeless guests twice this summer. If you’d like to serve as a chef, please e-mail Kate. If you have never served before, we’ll teach you all you need to know!

Our Events During the Season

St. Jamesians Monthly Brunch
The third Sunday of every month, September – June, we meet at coffee hour after the 11:15 a.m. service and go out for a no-host brunch in the neighborhood.

Trivia Night Fundraiser
Every fall, we host an inter-church trivia night for young adults. Tables from churches around the city compete for prizes and to raise money for projects like hurricane relief.

Winter & Summer Retreats
Winter and summer retreats are a chance to escape the city for a weekend of fellowship.

20s & 30s Mission Trip
There have been two St. Jamesians trips to New Orleans to assist in hurricane relief.

Friday Night Dinner Programs
Once a season, the St. Jamesians are in charge of St. James’ Friday Night Dinner Program.  Volunteers cook, serve and clean up a seated, three-course dinner for eighty homeless guests (the program itself occurs every Friday night at St. James’).

City-Wide Young Adults Christmas Party
The inter-church Episcopal 20s & 30s Christmas party in early December is often hosted, and always attended, by the St. Jamesians.

Bible Studies & Book Clubs
There are two or three evening or Sunday morning Bible studies or book clubs planned each year.
