For well over a decade, St. James’ parish community has gathered for a festive parish dinner. Co-sponsored by the Parish Life Committee and the Stewardship Committee, it has been an occasion to enjoy and celebrate the warmth of our shared life in the depth of winter. In recent years a parish art show has added another element of delight as the work of parishioners of all ages decorate Donegan and Coburn Halls. The food is delicious and guest speakers, sharing from their own experience, help us reflect on the grace and importance of our life as a parish, for ourselves and for the world. The evening is always a highlight of the year.
This great night occurs this year on Wednesday, January 27th. The art, like so much else this year, will have a bicentennial focus. The menu is now being planned and will again include a vegetarian option. Our speaker, the Very Rev. Dr. William (Bill) Lupfer, Dean of the Episcopal Cathedral in Portland Oregon brings his perspective as a priest who ministers in an often secular culture. The parent of two school age children, together with his wife Komiko, he knows well the complexities of balancing our commitments to church, community and family.
The Parish Art Show that accompanies the dinner is open to artists of all ages and who work in any medium. This year, in honor of the St. James' Bicentennial, works should relate to St. James' in some way. For questions on submitting work to the art show, contact Vicki Hall.
