The Rev. William P. Peyton, Associate Rector

Will came to St. James’ in the summer of 2010 with particular responsibility for inviting newcomers into the common life of St. James’ and the wider Church, and for coordinating our many pastoral ministries. He is excited about St. James’ growth as a worshiping community where the experience of Christian identity can be enriched by openness and inclusivity, and by our relationships with our Christian and non-Christian neighbors in New York and around the world.

A lifelong Episcopalian, Will grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. After graduating from the University of Virginia, he lived in Charlottesville for many years and worked as a stonemason before seeking ordination. He received his M.Div. from the General Theological Seminary in New York City in 2006, and then returned to Charlottesville to serve as associate rector at St. Paul’s Church in Ivy, Virginia. He was also the director of the Diocese of Virginia’s St. George’s Camp from 2004 to 2008. He and his wife Betsy were married in 1991 and have three children.
